Projecting the Twins: Delmon Young

There are 2 kinds of Twins fans. Those who think Delmon Young is good, and those who are smart. All joking aside, Delmon Young was the most over-hyped player to come along in a long time. Unfortunatley, Bill Smith bought into that hype. He has turned out to be a complete bust.

Fortunately, he may be coming around. Before the break last year, Young hit .266. After the break he hit .300.

Since he has the job all to himself this year, I think he will finally have his breakout year. It won’t be anywhere near his hype, but it should be better than what we’ve seen so far.

I think that he will have a breakout year, but I would say that his HR, OBP and SLG will be a bit higher. More like an .850 OPS

I also am thinking (hoping) this will be his breakout year. I do think the HR and RBI will be a little higher….but I would definitely be happy with your numbers. Either way is a huge improvement.

I don’t think you can expect that jump in 1 year. I think he could reach 20 homers by 2011 though.

It would be nice if he had this kind year (or better), but with Thome in the mix, won’t that push Kubel to the OF and wouldn’t Delmon be the odd man out? He might do this in 450 AB and playing against LHPs..
